HELPCLEANLONGBEACH.com - JOIN MORE THAN 80,000 OF YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS AND HELP PROTECT OUR COAST AND SHORELINES!

WHAT IS COASTAL CLEANUP DAY? California Coastal Cleanup Day, an annual beach and inland waterway cleanup, is the state's largest volunteer event. In 2010, over 82,500 volunteers removed more than 1.2 million pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways. When combined with the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by Ocean Conservancy and taking place on the same day, California Coastal Cleanup Day becomes part of one of the largest volunteer events in the world.

WHY ARE BEACH CLEANUPS IMPORTANT? California's coast and waterways have historically been collecting spots for annual accumulations of trash and debris. This debris, if not removed, can be harmful and even fatal to all manners of marine wildlife, can damage our state's economy, and can even become a human health hazard. Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together, take care of our fragile marine environment, show community support for our shared natural resources, learn about the impacts of marine debris and how we can prevent them, and to have fun!

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE? Participating in Coastal Cleanup Day is as easy as 1, 2, 3! The Coastal Commission is committed to eliminating the waste created at Coastal Cleanup Day. Please join our efforts by bringing your own reusable supplies to the Cleanup.

It’s easy to participate! All you have to do is show up at one of our six sites and sign in. Bags and gloves will be provided for you.

Everyone who participates in California Coastal Clean Up Day will need to sign a liability waiver. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian’s signature. The waiver is available on this website. To save time, especially if you are part of a group, you can print out and sign the waiver form and bring it to any site the day of the clean up.

To continue with the success of last year’s theme, we encourage everyone to “Bring Your Own…” You can bring a bucket or bag from home to pick up trash, and your own container for drinking water. This will help us limit the amount of trash we create. We want to cut our use of plastic trash bags by 50% this year!

Charcoal Grills and Smokers, Long Beach Lifestyle, Long Beach Homes For Sale

Charcoal Grills and Smokers - Long Beach Lifestyle
Long Beach Beach Homes For Sale

If you live Long Beach... you probably love the outdoor lifestyle. Long Beach Living at its best. Here is a brief article I found regarding outdoor appliances. If your in the market for one of these items this should help. Enjoy...

Long Beach Homes Outdoor Appliance Guide: Charcoal Grills and Smokers

By: Douglas Trattner

Published: April 26, 2010

With models priced from $35 to $1,000, there are charcoal grills to fit the budget of anyone who’s a fan of traditional barbecue.

Cost range: $35-$1,000 and up

Likely additional costs: assembly, cover, charcoal

Average life span: 3-16 years

Sub-$50 range

In the case of charcoal grills, "small doesn't have to mean cheap," explains Hale, author of "Great American Barbecue & Grilling Manual." Whereas many gas grills priced south of $50 aren't worth the money, the same isn't necessarily true when applied to charcoal.

Weber, the king of the kettle, sells a solid and wholly functional grill for around $35. Of course, that unit rests on the ground and measures just over a foot in diameter, making it useful only for the smallest of gatherings. Larger grills in this price range tend to be constructed of thin painted steel and positioned atop wobbly aluminum legs.

$50-$100 range

A homeowner looking to satisfy the needs of an average-size family should plan on spending at least $60 for a roomy but basic grill. Models in this category are of the 19- to 22-inch kettle variety, which is large enough to handle over a dozen burgers or chicken breasts.

Despite the increased girth, these grills restrict all but the most rudimentary cooking methods due to shallow lids that can't accommodate whole chickens, turkeys, or other roasts. Because charcoal (and especially hardwood lump) burns hotter than gas, the thinner steel grates found on these grills often warp and need replacing at a cost of $15 to $45.

$100-$200 range

This price range includes 22- and 26-inch name brand kettles. But the roomiest charcoal grills in this category are not round, they are rectangular barrel-style units that mimic a dissected 55-gallon drum.

These solidly constructed rigs, which start at around $130, boast a cooking area two to three times the size of comparably priced kettles. The 1,000-square-inch grate surface makes it easy not only to cook for a crowd, but also to do indirect cooking for slower, longer roasts.

Though billed as smokers too, these models typically lack the airflow control needed for the serious, long-temperature cooking associated with traditional smoked barbecue, warns Hale.

$200-$300 range

The additional dollars spent for charcoal grills in this category often buy convenience rather than increased capacity or improved construction. Kettle-style grills come mounted in a portable cart with storage for charcoal and a small work area. Some feature propane ignition systems for effortless charcoal starting sans lighter fluid.

Hinged cooking grates make it easy to add or rearrange charcoal without having to remove the food. And many facilitate the ash-disposal process thanks to removable catch basins. For frequent grillers, these conveniences are worth the costs.

Ceramic cookers

"The Big Green Egg folks are like Apple computer people," says Hale, referring to a prominent brand of ceramic charcoal cooker. "They are very passionate."

Owing to their thick-walled ceramic construction, these trendy grills are unmatched at retaining heat for long periods of time. Precision dampers make it easy (with practice) to accurately control temps, making the units effective for everything from high-heat searing to roasting to low-and-slow smoking. Homeowners, however, must be prepared to shell out $700 and up for a grill with a cook surface equal to a $70 kettle.

Smokers

Most charcoal grills can be configured to accept wood chunks or chips, allowing the cook to impart a pleasant smoke flavor to cooking foods. But in order to truly excel at barbecue, says Hale, a grill must contain a system of tight-fitting dampers and vents that make it possible to accurately regulate cooking temperatures.

Offset smokers look like barrel-style grills with the addition of a side-mounted firebox. Heat and smoke travel from the firebox, through the main cooking chamber, and finally out the exhaust. Because the heat source is not directly underneath the food (indirect cooking), it is easier to maintain the lower temps needed for smoking. These units start around $250.

Water smokers, of which the Weber Smokey Mountain (aka the Bullet) is the most popular model, look like elongated kettle grills. Situated between the charcoal bowl at the bottom and the cooking chamber above is a shallow pan of liquid that acts like a heat sink, regulating temps. Well-made and backed by Weber's 10-year warranty, these smokers sell for around $300.

Suggested extras: Wood ash combines with rain water to make lye, a corrosive and caustic substance. For that reason alone, a tight-fitting grill cover is a necessity. Prices range from $20 to $70. Chimney starters ($15) make fast work of igniting charcoal briquettes without the need for lighter fluid. Folks serious about barbecuing, says Hale, should purchase a quality grill thermometer for $10.

Cost of operation: There is no denying that charcoal grilling is more expensive than gas grilling. A typical charcoal cookout will cost about $3.50 in fuel, while the same session on a propane grill will run about $0.60, and even less if hooked up to a natural gas line. Nevertheless, charcoal grill aficionados swear by the superior taste of foods prepared with charcoal.

Douglas Trattner has covered household appliances and home improvement for HGTV.com, DIYNetworks, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. As an avid home cook and pit master-in-training, he struggled over the age-old debate of gas versus charcoal grill--so he bought one of each.

I hope that this was useful. If you have any questions regarding the marketing & selling of your home or if you or someone you know are looking to buy a home... Please contact us for complete details.

Are you paying too much for your property taxes??? Propery Tax Appeals.

Are you paying too much for your property taxes??? Appeal it!!!

Property Tax Appeals - Long Beach Homes For Sale

Long Beach Homes For Sale

Within the last couple of weeks, your clients should have received their Property Value Notice from the county assessor's office. This notice indicates the assessed value that the property taxes will be based on for the 2011-2012 tax year.

If the assessed value of the property is greater than the market value, the homeowner can appeal the property value assessment.

In many cases, the county assessor's office has already reduced the assessed value of properties that have declined in value. However, many properties may still have assessed values greater than the market value. Even if the assessor has reduced the assessment, if the homeowner is not satisfied with the new assessed value, believing that the assessment is still above market value, the homeowner still has the option to appeal the assessment.

10 TIPS TO GET OUT OF A RUT. Long Beach Homes, CA

10 Tips to get out of a rut. Long Beach Homes

If you find yourself stuck in a rut, life can become monotonous, dreary and uninspiring. It is easy to feel life is going nowhere, especially if we have problems at work or with family. To bring newness into our lives we need to first realise that we are actually stuck in a rut. After that we can make a conscious decision to rejuvenate our lives.

Here are some Practical Tips to Get out of a Rut.

1. Set Challenges

Personal challenges are a very powerful way of motivating yourself to do something new. If there is no target it is easy to make a half-hearted effort and give up. However, when we have something very clear to aim for, it is much more likely we will actually make something happen.

2. Focus on the Present Moment

Do you spend alot of time regretting the past? Everyone makes decisions they later regret, but, if you become consumed with regret you will not be able to move forward and forget the experience. Don’t be preoccupied with the past and future, try to enjoy the present moment.

3. Do Without Some Everyday things

It is easy to get into a routine where we spend several hours doing the same uninspiring activities. If you are addicted to watching TV, surfing the net or playing computer games, make a decision to do without them for a day or week; this will force you to do something completely different. This does not mean you have to give up watching TV completely. It is just that if we become totally absorbed in one activity, it leaves no opportunity for discovering newness in our life.

4. Learn a new Skill

There are many things that we could use to improve our life. Learning a new skill gives us the opportunity to find a new avenue for creativity and inspiration. In the process of learning we can get a feeling of self improvement. This is the best antidote to being stuck in a rut.

5. Do Something for Other People

When we live only for our own pleasure, there feels something lacking. When we do something selflessly for other people, we bring out the best in ourselves. Offering useful service to other people is highly rewarding.

6. Look at things from a different perspective

When life becomes boring, it is often a reflection of our inner attitude. If we have a tendency to be negative, then it is more likely that we become bored with life. For example, try to look at relationships from a different perspective; stop complaining about other people’s behaviour, if you wait for other people to behave as you want them to, you will always be frustrated. Instead practise tolerance and patience.

7. Don’t listen Endlessly to Your Thoughts

It is your own thoughts that make you feel you are stuck in a rut, and that life is boring and futile. But, why do have to listen to these thoughts? Learn to manage your thoughts and let go of these negative opinions. If you can clear your mind, this will make a big difference to your outlook on life.

8. Spend Time With Enthusiastic People

If you feel stuck in a rut, don’t waste time feeling sorry for yourself. If you spend some time with enthusiastic / positive people, some of this energy will rub off on yourself. Even if you don’t particularly feel like doing it, meeting other people will take you out of yourself and help to reenergise yourself.

9. Don’t Keep Complaining

You could spend 24 hours a day complaining about various things; but, would that give you any satisfaction? When we complain we actually give our energy and focus to the negative. Complaining just makes life seem more dreary and unfair.

10. Humour

Even in the most banal experiences there is the opportunity for humour. Don’t take life too seriously, always try to see the funny side. Without humour the world would have ended many years ago.

Long Beach Homes For Sale - Are home prices coming down again???

Long Beach Homes For Sale- Are home prices coming down again???

5/18/2011 12:25 PM ET.

By Anthony Mirhaydari, MSN Money

Why home prices are falling -- againToo few buyers with too many homes for sale depresses prices. Analysts foresee an additional 10% plunge -- an opportunity for landlords and investors, but bad news for homeowners.

Is your home's price about to fall 10% further?

That's what two respected teams of analysts are predicting right now. And TrimTabs Investment Research is more pessimistic, suggesting it could be five or six years before home prices stabilize and move higher.

Of course, this is just one more problem for investors and consumers to worry about. The economy appears to be slowing again. Stocks have ambled sideways since February. The U.S. government faces the prospect of a technical default on the national debt.

Indeed, we're looking at a time of serious upheaval. We've had the Arab Spring in the Middle East. There's been a spate of natural disasters, including Japan's earthquake and nuclear plant meltdown, as well as floods and tornadoes in America's heartland. And frothy commodities markets have suffered violent setbacks, with silver in particular showing symptoms of excessive speculation. And don't forget that the dollar, after being left for dead, is rising like Lazarus, reanimated by new fears over Greece and the future of the eurozone.

In all of the tumult, it's easy to forget that the root cause of all this mess -- now entering its fourth year -- continues to fester like an untreated wound. I'm talking about the U.S. housing market, which, by some measures, has fallen to new lows. After showing signs of hope late last year in the wake of the homebuyer tax credit, it's now suffering fresh setbacks and reaccelerating price declines.

Consumers, weighed down by rising inflationary pressure and lackluster job growth, are losing confidence. At the same time, tight lending standards and efforts to reform Wall Street and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are restricting access to mortgage credit. Right now, housing finance survives on government largesse: Government-backed entities like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac now account for 95% of new mortgages.

All of this is limiting economic growth by keeping pressure on the financial system. And it risks the creation of a negative feedback loop in which lower home prices result in more homeowners falling into negative equity, leading to more foreclosures, more bank losses, tighter credit and, ultimately, further price declines.

All this leads the analysts to predict another drop in prices before a solid bottom is found. For potential landlords, especially those with cash in hand, this could mean it's time to buy property. For investors, it means bargains on a lot of related equities; I'll have some names later in this column, though I wouldn't start buying just yet.

But for homeowners? More pain. Here's why

Longtime readers will remember that last December, when the economic outlook was much brighter, I penned a column ("Why it's safe to buy homes again") encouraging buyers to jump back into real estate. And if you got a low interest rate and you planned to stay put, it was. I also wrote that barring some "unforeseen calamity, another self-perpetuating cycle of higher home prices" could be seen as early as this year.

Unfortunately, we've had a few calamities since then; Fed-induced inflation, the Portuguese bailout, unrest in Libya and Japan's quake have led to a manufacturing slowdown. Economic growth slowed dramatically in the first quarter of this year to just 1.8% from 3.1% in the fourth quarter. The team at Capital Economics noted that households had "been hit hard by surging prices for everyday necessities such as food and energy."

And now there is evidence that the job market is softening again, with the unemployment rate popping back up to 9% in April. (I covered the economic slowdown and its impact on stocks in my April 27 column, "Investors, it's time to run and hide.")

Housing activity is way down because of all this. Home sales have stagnated near recessionary lows after unwinding the temporary boost from the homebuyer tax credit. Demand for new mortgages has dropped back to levels not seen since the depths of the financial crisis in 2008. Homebuilder confidence has sunk to very low levels -- and stayed there -- for more than three years and hasn't been positive since April 2006.

As a result, home prices have started falling again. What's more, the price declines seem to be accelerating, with the 20-city Case-Shiller Home Price Index off 3.3% in February from its year-ago level -- a drop of a magnitude not seen since late 2009. That's the eighth consecutive month-over-month price decline. The homeownership rate also continued to fall as more and more distressed owners became renters.

There are still some pluses

That's the bad news. The good news is that the long-term factors I mentioned back in December are still valid. These include record affordability, thanks to low prices and low borrowing rates, and still-favorable long-term demographics, as the United States is one of the few wealthy nations set to enjoy an expanding workforce in the years to come -- unlike Japan and most of Europe.
